A1A Scenic and Historic Coastal Byway 

Perhaps no stretch of highway reaches further into America’s history than the A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway has the official title of an “All-American Road” and offers travelers a stretch of highway that reaches further into history than any other road in the USA. Ride for 72 miles of mostly two-lane roads and marvel at the natural beauty and tranquility.  

With land on one side and water on the other, this byway navigates through history, archaeology, and recreation of the past 500+ years. From St. Johns County and Ponte Vedra Beach in the north to Gamble Rogers Memorial Park on Flagler Beach in the south, this highway intersects National Monuments, State Parks, the oldest town in the USA, beautiful beaches, and more. 

Historic Downtown Fernandina Beach 

Roll through the historic streets of downtown Fernandina Beach as you step back in time. Quaint shops and cozy restaurants line the streets of this quintessential Southern town filled with charm and history. You won’t have to drive far to encounter this scenic piece of Amelia Island. Head to Seaside Park at Sadler Road. This is the only beach access within the city of Fernandina Beach that allows vehicles to park directly in the sand. This adventure will require a 4WD vehicle, so plan accordingly. And be sure to follow all city ordinances and rules.
