Plan Your Winter Holiday on Amelia Island

Planning a winter holiday on Amelia Island means you can probably leave the snow boots at home. December in Fernandina Beach is much easier on anyone who has had enough of winter weather.

December is filled with holiday tours, cheerful events, and more reasons to stay outside. You can shop in pajamas and watch a giant shrimp drop beside the river.

That last one is not a typo.

The season is merry, bright, and a little quirky. It is Christmas cheer with palm trees and beach walks still on the table. Book your December stay at The Fairbanks House, and we'll happily explain the shrimp over breakfast.

Start the Season With Local Traditions

The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island, hosts its annual Christmas Tree Lighting on November 25, 2026. The event features a 40-foot tree, music, fireworks, cookies, cider, and Santa arriving by Christmas train.

Two days later, downtown Fernandina Beach keeps the fun going with its Black Friday PJ Party. Local shops offer specials, treats, and more sightings. Plus, it’s a perfect excuse to wear pajamas downtown.

That same evening, the city hosts its traditional Christmas tree lighting to kick off the true holiday spirit.

These events make a winter holiday festive without the packed schedule. Spend the morning downtown, recharge at the inn, then head back out after dark.

See Fernandina Beach Dressed for Christmas

Amelia already has plenty of personality. Add wreaths, garlands, glowing windows, and Christmas trees, and the whole town is transformed.

The annual Amelia Island Museum of History Holiday Home Tour returns December 4 & 5, 2026, with a preview tour scheduled on December 3.

During the tour, step inside decorated homes chosen for their history, architecture, and character. Local designers add their own festive details, while docents share stories about each property.

The tour is polished, and you get to view architecture, history, holiday decorating, and a little harmless house envy all at once.

Spend a Weekend at Dickens on Center

Dickens on Centre takes over downtown Fernandina Beach from December 11 through 13, 2026. The free festival turns Centre Street into a fun Victorian Christmas market.

Costumed characters walk downtown while performers, food stalls, and holiday entertainment fill the streets. Families can visit Tiny Tims Kids Zone to see St. Nick.

Historic storefronts, brick sidewalks, and old buildings already have the right look. Add Victorian costumes, and the whole weekend is a theatrical experience.

This winter holiday event is also easy to build into a relaxed Amelia Island getaway. Start with breakfast, walk around the market, then escape downtown crowds on your own adventure. Later, return for dinner, lights, and another lap to shop in case you missed anything.

If you’ve had your fill of adventure for a while, you can take a break for something light. Grab coffee downtown and walk toward the waterfront for a peaceful experience.

Amelia Island does not demand a checklist. Some of the best holiday moments happen between plans, when the weather cooperates, and nobody rushes you toward another reservation.

Ring In the New Year With a Shrimp Drop

Times Square drops a ball. Fernandina Beach drops a giant illuminated shrimp.

The annual New Year's Eve Shrimp Drop happens on December 31, 2026, from 5–8 pm. Everyone gathers along the downtown riverfront to welcome the new year.

Laser lights and family activities keep things lively before the giant shrimp descends. The early timing also works well for families. It also works for anyone who prefers pajamas by ten.

After the celebration, head back to your room, pour something festive, and enjoy a quieter end to the night.

Stay Somewhere That Feels Like Part of the Trip

The Fairbanks House offers historic character, thoughtful hospitality, and an easy location near most of Amelia Island's activities. Shopping, eating, events, and the waterfront are all close to you.

That means you can spend the day out and still return to a calm place. The property screams holidays during this time. Christmas trees, greenery, lights, and historic interiors fit naturally, so we hope you like the decorations.

Rooms and cottages offer different comforts, depending on what you choose. Some include king beds, fireplaces, soaking tubs, kitchenettes, or extra living space.

Breakfast gives the day a strong start, before a full, fun schedule downtown. The best part is the balance. You stay close to the action without sleeping in the middle of it.

Fairbanks House is not just where you drop your bags. It becomes part of the getaway.

Plan Your Amelia Island Holiday Getaway

A winter holiday does not need snow, frozen sidewalks, or three layers of clothing to feel festive. Amelia Island makes a strong case for giving your holiday giveaway a change.

Come for the lights, historic homes, quirky traditions, and warm coastal weather. Stay for Fernandina Beach, good food, and the slower pace.

Then return to The Fairbanks House when you are ready to relax, preferably with no alarm set for the morning. Book your Amelia Island holiday getaway and let Fernandina Beach handle the festive part this year.
