Beer Fest Weekend? The Fairbanks House Is Already Packed and Ready

The Island Hop Craft Beer & Spirits Fest is heading back to Fernandina Beach on October 3. This year's lineup is the biggest yet. Held in Central Park, this family-friendly festival brings together local and regional craft beer, wine, and now spirits.

Prepare to have a blast with live music, food trucks, and a marketplace full of local goods. Kids under 12 get in free, and dogs are welcome. VIP ticket holders even get an extra hour of tasting time before anyone else. So, bring a lawn chair, we're covering everything you need to know before you plan your trip.

Main Street on Fernandina Beach started this festival back in 2021. The goal was to celebrate the area's breweries and distilleries, and it keeps getting better each year. This year, the tasting menu expands past beer and wine to include craft spirits.

Breweries, wineries, and distilleries from Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia will all be pouring in one place. On top of that, several new vendors are joining the lineup. Even festival regulars will find something they haven't tried before.

Every ticket sold supports Fernandina Beach Main Street's mission of preserving downtown Fernandina Beach's historic charm. It also helps keep local businesses strong. Basically, you drink well and do good at the same time.

Now that you know what, let's cover the where. This year's festival takes place at Central Park, 1200 Atlantic Avenue. That's right between historic downtown Fernandina Beach and the island's beaches.

General admission opens at 1pm, while VIP guests get in an hour early at noon. Free parking is available across the street from the entry gate, within easy walking distance.

A few more things to know: bring a refillable water bottle, a blanket, or a chair, as seating is limited. This event happens rain or shine, no exceptions. No sunshine, no problem; the tastings go on regardless.

Speaking of planning ahead, four ticket types cover every kind of festival guest.

• General Admission includes a tasting glass and unlimited tastings starting at 1pm.

• Non-Drinker tickets get you into the festival, the marketplace, the music, and the food trucks.

• Alcohol tastings simply aren't included with that ticket.

• Child tickets apply to kids 12 and over. Kids under 12, on the other hand, get in free and are genuinely welcome, not just tolerated. Looking to treat yourself?

• VIP tickets are the upgrade worth considering. VIP guests enter at noon, a full hour before general admission. That extra time means more room to sample beer, wine, spirits, and specialty drinks. The ticket includes a commemorative tasting glass and exclusive event swag. 

There's even an air-conditioned restroom trailer with three stalls and two sinks. As an added bonus, VIP ticket holders are entered into three exclusive prize drawings. Winners get announced at 1:30pm on October 3, so stick around if you want a shot.

Tickets go on sale ahead of the event and tend to move quickly.

Of course, tastings are only part of the fun. Live music from The Honey Badgers, Andria Shinn and the Loyal Souls plays throughout the day. Bring your best two-step, or just a folding chair. Once the music pulls you in, the Main Street Marketplace is worth a slow lap, too.

You can also indulge in a little shopping. Local nonprofits and regional businesses will be selling handmade goods and art.

Hungry yet? Food trucks handle lunch and dinner, and family-friendly activities keep the kids busy. And for the four-legged crew, a dog relief and cooling station means they get festival perks too. Tail wags guaranteed. Cornhole boards round out the experience for anyone who needs a break between tastings.

The fun doesn't stop when the festival gates close, either. Companion events fill out the rest of the weekend. Check the festival website for the full schedule before you finalize your plans. While you're downtown, take a walk down Centre Street. You'll see the Nassau County Courthouse, built in 1891, and the Palace Saloon, Florida's oldest bar dating back to 1903.

The historic district makes a pretty backdrop for a festival weekend.
